About Me

Anne-Cécile L.

Born and raised in France in 1990, I grew up listening to the Spice Girls & Aqua and ended up having Iggy Pop as my absolute idol (don’t ask me, I don’t know how it happened either).

I am passionate about music, mainly, but didn’t know how to take part in it – more than just spending my time in concert venues. I started directing some music videos and working on music documentaries first.

Then after graduating from a Masters degree in Film Studies and a Masters degree in Events Management (Live Music), I worked as Artist Liaison/Production Manager in concert venues and festivals in France for a few years.

I once had an opportunity to interview Yelle at the Brest European Short Film Festival, we had a lot of fun (well, I mean, I had) and I felt like it was the missing part of it all. So I decided to keep going and that’s how DYWD started in 2015…

I had a break for a while, after moving to Manchester, too busy trying to improve my English and find decent wine and cheese (I kinda gave up though) but it seems that I was missing asking weird questions to people a bit too much. So, I’m back at it!

DYWD stands for Do You Wanna Dance? Cause even if I can’t dance, shaking my body and my head wildly on heavy sounds help(ed) me dealing with anger and sometimes just getting up. So it’s an invitation for anyone to do so, to shake their body and scream out loud.

More seriously, the idea behind DYWD was and still is to let people, and especially artists, express themselves about whatever they want/like (from music to chicken disguises, to TV shows about serial killers or anything that cross their minds), without limiting themselves.

There are not really any guidelines or rules here. Sometimes interviews are quite « serious », sometimes it’s a funny mess, and that is why I like it.

I interview people/bands whom I like the work. And as much as I’m trying to be the more professional I can, I’m not a journalist. And I don’t want to be one. I do it my way, I try not to make it boring.

Things are transcribed the exact way they were said. It’s not promotion, it’s just conversations and it’s all about getting to know people a little bit more (and sometimes having fun).

I’m working on translating the whole website but it’s taking longer than expected (if you’re not speaking French, it may be quicker for you to start getting lessons now to be really honest). A link to the English versions is/will be available on each page.

Interviews that are already translated:
-The Inspector Cluzo,
-Feu! Chatterton,
-Hanni El Khatib,
-Miossec,
-Nalle Colt/Vintage Trouble,
-The Shoes
